Our mission 

Advocate for massage therapy as a recognized and respected healthcare profession.

Impact Statement

Promote and ensure the accessibility and financial viability of massage therapy as a reimbursed healthcare service through advocacy and communication with government entities (agencies), third-party insurance payers and allied healthcare organizations .

Provide necessary resources for practitioners of massage therapy, including advanced education in manual therapy and healthcare business development as well as advanced credentialing avenues.

Board of Directors

President and Board Director:  Marybeth Berney
Marybeth has been a leader and activist for massage therapists in WA for over 25 years. She served as a State Board of Massage member and Chair for 7 years and she volunteered with AMTA-WA for 10 years where she served as President, 1st Vice President and government relations director. Practicing in Olympia WA since 1985, Marybeth works with a large variety of clients, providing wellness massage as well as treatment/clinical massage. Her goal is and always has been, to see to it that massage therapist get the respect and encouragement they deserve.

Vice President and Board Director:  Amy Thomason
Amy has owned and operated a full time clinical practice since graduating from Seattle Massage School in 1994.  Nearly that entire time she has been actively advocating and volunteering in her local community and statewide for the massage profession and healthcare as a whole.  While volunteering with AMTA-WA, Amy served on the Health Care Integration Committee for 15 years and represented WA as a delegate to the AMTA national convention for 2 years.  In her local community, Amy gained valuable healthcare experience serving as a hospital commissioner for over 7 years.  This gave her the opportunity to represent her healthcare district by Stomping the Hill in Washington DC advocating for Rural Healthcare issues, which led her to serve on The Hospital Governing Boards Committee of the WA State Hospital Association for 3 years.

Treasurer and Board Director:  Carl Wilson
Carl has been in practice since 1991. After graduating from Seattle Massage School Carl went to work for Seattle Athletic Club where he managed their Northgate Massage program for 15 years. During that time Carl volunteered for the AMTA and served in many officer positions at the State Chapter level and on several committees at the National level. Carl currently practices part-time on a referral basis only.
