ADVOCATE FOR MASSAGE THERAPY AS A RECOGNIZED & RESPECTED HEALTHCARE PROFESSION
From CPP
We’ve been asked why cash-only massage therapists should care about insurance rates, contract fairness, or network adequacy. The answer is simple: insurance practices shape the entire profession. When reimbursement undervalues massage, it drags down public perception of our work, restricts client access, and weakens massage’s place in healthcare. It also influences what becomes accepted as “standard” or “reasonable” rates across the field—including for cash-based practices. We’ve also been asked why current clients are the most effective voices for completing and sending the form letter we’ve developed, when those most impacted are often the ones who can’t get in for care. The truth is, regulators pay closer attention when people who already benefit from massage speak up. Their letters demonstrate both the value of massage and the barriers that keep others out, making the gap visible and pressing for change.
